Drawing on Hudson’s history as a whaling port and their determination to bring Hudson back to life, dozens of business and civic leaders in 1975 formed the Society to Promote Our Unique Town – or SPOUT. They paid a local graphic artist, Richard Kraham, $75 to design SPOUT’s logo, a spunky whale that today adorns Hudson’s street signs. These SPOUTy mugs commemorate Hudson’s whaling history and the tenacity of its residents in working together as a community through tough times. Local artist and co-owner of Spotty Dog Books & Ale Alan Coon designed the mug with all the iterations of SPOUTy exclusively for the library.
