This is an open collection being gathered since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, mostly from descendants of the original community, in support of the people of Ukraine in their struggle to maintain their sovereignty and freedom. The Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church Hudson, NY: Parish History Commemorative states: “Eager, anxious, and full of faith, millions of Eastern and Southern European immigrants put their trust in God and left their ancestral homelands in search of a better life in America. Nearly two thousand of them settled in Columbia County…Of these, Ukrainians comprised the second largest group, surpassed in number only by Polish immigrants. The first official documentation of Ukrainians settling in the city of Hudson can be traced back to 1910.”

A school was set up in Hudson for Ukrainian children, taught by Drintro Churenko. L. Edward Moore's aunt Mary Chaikowsky Zimm is seated front row, 6th from left, and his aunt Ann Chaikowsky Smith is seated 8th from left. Both are in traditional Ukrainian clothes. Laddie Buniak stands just to the right of the man at the center back row. The photo ca. 1930. June Buniak: "My father told me the classes were to try to get the students literate in the Ukrainian language, as they spoke it at home, but couldn't read or write it."
Alec Zukowski and Mary Gryglewicz Zukowski married at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Hudson on May 15, 1915 and lived at 741 Columbia Street their entire lives. Both emigrated from Brynce Zagorne, Ukraine; Alec in 1909 & Mary in 1911.

Uncle Stephen Chaikowski is seated front row, directly under the "Y" in "NY". My Grandmother Nellie Tchaikovsky is standing back row, first woman from left - next to man with folded arms - The man to her left with dark hair is my grandfather John Tchaikovsky."

Anna Koperszewich, 1894 - 1976. She was from the village of Klebanowka, Galicia (now part of Ukraine and Poland). She came to the US in 1912 and married John Buniak in 1913 in Hudson.
Women who lived in cement factory row houses on Ten Broeck Lane. The Ukrainian immigrants there gardened behind the buildings, made homemade sauerkraut, pickles, and beer in barrels in the basement, cultured sour cream, etc.
Hudson Ukrainian baseball team that played in the Twilight League. Peter Drahushuk,upper right; Mike Drahushuk, center bottom row. ca. 1940s. They used to give signals to each other in Ukrainian and the other team had no idea what was happening!
Anna Lysohir, who came to the US ca. 1908. Painting done by Anne Toulmin-Rothe. Anna married Ilko Lysohir and came to Hudson where Ilko worked at the Atlas Cement Plant until he retired in 1962. They lived in Atlas Housing, then 558 Columbia Street and then purchased a home on Worth Avenue.
Hudson resident Rachel Kappel on the lap of her Great Grandmother, Mary Kozub, who came to the United States from Ukraine. Her son, Rachel's Grandfather Martin Mahokin, is on the right and Rachel's Mom Sharon Spath is on the left. Rachel resides in the apartment today where the photo was taken. Her great grandmother lived there until she died.
